We Become What We Behold is a short browser game originally created by Nicky Case and later published by Mismatch Studio. The whole thing takes about five minutes. A population of circles and squares goes about its day peacefully — until you start pointing a camera at them. Your job is to capture moments of tension or conflict and broadcast them. The more you amplify, the angrier the population gets. The cycle feeds itself until it reaches a conclusion neither side planned for.
It is a game about news cycles — specifically about how the act of observation and amplification shapes what gets reported, what gets repeated, and what eventually happens as a result. The concept is simple enough to understand immediately and uncomfortable enough to think about after the tab is closed.
How to Play
Move the camera with your mouse or finger to frame a moment. Click to capture it. The captured image broadcasts to the population and increases tension between circles and squares. The more inflammatory the moment, the stronger the reaction. Keep capturing and amplifying until the cycle reaches its end. The game runs once through — there are no levels, no score, no retry loop. Just the one playthrough and whatever you take from it.
